Cake for a Pizza Lover

E-mail Print PDF

pizza cakeHere's a cute idea from FamilyFun.com for a cake for someone who loves pizza. It's a pizza baked in a disposable pizza pan and displayed in a pizza box. You can even cut the cake using a pizza wheel! To create this cake, you need:

  • 2 cups red frosting (your "tomato sauce")
  • 1 baked 12" or 14" round cake
  • Grated white chocolate or coconut (your "cheese")
  • 1/2 to 1 cup of chopped, fresh or dried fruit (blueberries, banana slices, stawberries, kiwi, orange, grapes, mango, apricot, apple)
  • Pizza Box (for display)
Bake a 12" to 14" round cake. Frost the cake with the red icing to within 1/2" of the edge. Sprinkle with the grated white chocolate or coconut to replicate the look of the cheese. Top with the fruit. Put inside a pizza box for display. Hint: Many pizza parlors will be happy to give you an extra pizza box (especially if you are ordering tons of pizza from them for your pizza-themed party)!

Frosting 101

FrostingThere are a bunch of different ways to frost your cake. Frostings are thick and creamy. Icings and glazes are thinner. Meringue-based frostings and chocolate glazes are examples of cooked frosting.

Others, such as Royal Icings and certain Buttercream frostings, are not cooked, but simply mixed together. Use powdered sugar and ultra-fine Baker's Sugar™ because they blend easier in uncooked frosting and dissolve faster in cooked frosting.
